The benefits of an online community holding a meatup event are increasing now. Hosting events work as a promotion of the community. By interacting with community organizers and participants, you can grasp the influencer's heart. Every process of the preparation for the event can be content. The fact that organizing events enhances the confidence of the online community.
I am running an online community called Japanese Sake Lovers and organized an event successfully. On this page, I will introduce how I promoted the event and got lots of attendees.
The online community, Japanese Sake Lovers, operated by me and my business partner has been only a few months since it was made. So the purpose of the event was to promote the new online community. And this means that not only the announcement to the existing community is insufficient to collect the capacity of 30 people entering the venue.
The biggest challenge was to collect participants.
In addition, it made the difficulty of attracting this event a slightly higher, the price setting of the $60 participation fee. It is not so difficult to collect many participants if the ticket costs $10 or $20, but in order to gather attendees who will settle in the community, we needed to gather people who feel valued in this price. This is the second challenge.
There are 3 things we have done to promote this event.
As I mentioned earlier, every single moment of preparing events could be content. And when I share the content on the event page, people will be receiving notifications about the event.
To promote my event, I made photo and video content of dishes and sake planned to be served at the event, and we posted more than 10 high-quality postings during the one month announcement period. Among them, this movie is made by putting effort.
One of the efficient tactics to attract customers is to send a press release to big media. However, it is not easy to be introduced by big media.
From my past experience, there are four points event promoter needs to do to get media’s attention.
By completing these points, we were promised to publish event information on two big media.
Although it is a classic method, people can be notified of the event by making flyers and distributing them to the target audience. Because some people do not use much social media, this tactics is still useful today.
To reach many people, we had flyers set up at the restaurant that will be event venues. In addition, we joined another event with high affinity and distributed flyers efficiently.
Got 60 applications for the capacity of 30 seats!
As a result, we got more than 60 applications for the capacity of 30 seats. Also, participants of our Facebook group increased by 150% through the event.
Not only us satisfied with the result, but the sponsors for the event. And the achievements and connections made by completing this event might be an advantage when planning events in the future.
